Dear Gary,
Thank you for your concern and care about what Taiwan is going through at the moment. Further to my short and prompt reply last night I would like to elaborate with more details on what happened and how I feel about Pelosi’s visit.
Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan yesterday. Her 19-hour visit was like a hurricane but the destructive damages come only later. Her visit had no substantial meaning to Taiwan at all. In my opinion she took advantage of the subtle relationship among China, the U.S. and Taiwan and schemed the visit for her own ego and prestige before she retires. The visit has totally antagonized China and now China has begun their retaliations not to U.S. yet but to Taiwan by banning imports of thousands of agricultural products and seafood from Taiwan effective immediately. (For years, 70-80% of these products in Taiwan has been exported and sold to China.) Also, China is launching a military war drill today for three days in six different areas around Taiwan as close as 16 miles from Taiwan’s coastline! As of this writing 51 outgoing flights have been canceled. I am sure this is only a harbinger of what is going to follow. So it appears that Pelosi came, satisfied her selfish ego, dropped a bomb and took off, placing the people of Taiwan in anxiety for financial difficulty to come and extreme fear of war! Poor Taiwan and God bless Taiwan!
